Energy Healing and Reiki

Energy Healing has been around for centuries in many different cultures throughout the world. In modern settings it is used as a complimentary therapy, with the belief that a vital “life force” flows through and around the body, known as an “energy” field. Some healing traditions call this an aura, chakras or light body.  Many traditional healers believe that physical, emotional, mental or spiritual ailments can create imbalances (or blockages) in the body or the person’s energetic field. Skilled practitioners can help facilitate and “move” blockages and energy to increase more positive outcomes, including reduced stress and anxiety, as well as relaxation.  Common types of energy healing include, but are not limited to: Reiki, Acupuncture and Acupressure, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or Tapping), Qigong, Tai Chi and Pranic Healing.

Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that involves channeling universal life force energy (some traditions say:   Chi, Prana, Holy Spirit), to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and facilitate healing. Developed in the 1920s in Japan by Mikao Usui, it made its way to the West in 1937.   It is now used in the West in medical settings as a complimentary modality to help support healing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that originated in Japan, combining the words "rei" (universal) and "ki" (life energy). Practitioners believe that this universal life force energy flows through all living things and can be harnessed to promote healing and balance within the body. Reiki is often described as a deeply calming and therapeutic experience, where practitioners use their hands to channel energy to clients, either by lightly touching them or hovering their hands above the body in the subtle energy fields.

How Does Reiki Work?

During a typical Reiki session, the recipient lies down fully clothed while the practitioner places their hands on or near specific areas of the body.  Practitioners claim that Reiki may help to remove energy blockages, allowing the energy to flow freely, which can lead to physical and emotional healing. What is upmost important, however, is the practitioner’s intention and presence. It is based in Love and Healing.

Reported Benefits of Reiki

Many individuals who receive Reiki report various benefits, including:

  • Reduced pain and anxiety: Reiki may help alleviate discomfort and promote relaxation, particularly for those with chronic conditions.

  • Improved sleep quality: Recipients often experience better sleep patterns following session.

  • Enhanced emotional well-being: Reiki can foster feelings of peace, security, and overall well-being.

  • Support during medical treatments: Some studies suggest that Reiki can complement conventional medical treatments, helping to manage side effects and improve quality of life for patients undergoing procedures.
